Success

Over the years Barbara Jayne Dance centre has competed in many dance competitions throughout Australia gaining much success in both Adelaide and interstate. B.J.D.C has been competing in the SASDS competitions for the past 25 years gaining much success in championships, aggregates, teachers aggregates, and overall school champion. Students also compete interstate winning various championships and aggregates. Common interstate competitions soloists compete in include Mount Gambier Dance Eisteddfords, C.S.T.D Competitions in Preston Melbourne, Ballarat Competitions, McDonald’s Sydney Dance Eisteddford and many more. Not only does BJDC compete in competitions and achieve outstanding results in exams but also performs for various functions around Adelaide. Barbara Jayne students have been very successful in both Musical Theatre, Classical Ballet and contemporary. Some of the highlights include:

  •  

  • Cameron Mitchell; As a performer Cameron appeared in the Australian productions of Hot Shoe Shuffle, Chicago, Oliver, Westside Story, My Fair Lady, the concert versions of Zorba and Mack and Mabel. He recently performed in Monty Python’s Spamalot. Film/TV appearances include Baz Luhrman’s Oscar winning Moulin Rouge, People’s Choice Awards, Helpmann Awards, Popstarts, Mornings with Kerrianne and Roy and HG’s Club Buggery. Cameron is also Artistic Director of the renowned Brent Street Studios in Sydney.

  •  

  • Amy Berrisford performed in various professional and amateur musicals in Melbourne and overseas. Amy also played the role of Demeter in the  tour of Cats Now and Forever in Korea

  • Amy Berrisford performed in the spectacular KING KONG LIVE ON STAGE in Melbourne 2013

  • She toured throughut 2014 in Korea and Macau with Cats the Musical performed in the Australia and New Zealand tour of Cats the Musical with Delta Goodrem.

  • Caitlin McLeod completed her diploma in dance and Centre of Performing Arts (CPA; Adelaide) and was then chosen to join Australian Dance Theatre (ADT)

  • Nadia Komazec played the role of Meg Giry in the Australian and World Tour of Phantom of the Opera from March of 2007 through to June of 2008. 

  • Nadia then performed in the chorus of Mamma Mia and understudied the role of Sophie and Ali in 2009/2010.

  • In 2012 Nadia performed in the World Premiere in Melbourne of "Moonshadow", music by Cat Stevens performing in the chorus and also covering the lead role.

  • 2012 also saw Nadia playing Maggie in the Brisbane and Perth season of A Chorus Line.

  • In 2013 Nadia joined the cast of Legally Blonde the Musical performing in the Australian tour in Brisbane and Melbourne.

  • Nadia was also in the Ensemble of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in Sydney, covering Jolene.

  • Principal Dancer in Hollywood Honky Tonk in 2014.

  • Nadia was seen performing in The Production Company's Show Boat in 2014.

  • In 2008 Cristiano Martino won the prestigious McDonald’s Sydney Classical Scholarship and was asked to perform at the Sydney Opera House for the Helpmann Awards.

  • Cristiano also competed in the CSTD Competitions in Melbourne winning the 12 and Under 14 Jazz Championship, the Prestigious Commonwealth Classical Scholarship and the 12 and Under 14 Aggregate

  • In July of 2008 Cristiano competed in the Cecchetti National Medal taking home the Silver medal after competing against students from all over Australia.

  • Cristiano was accepted in level 5 at the Australian Ballet in 2009 school and has now completed his training. In his final year at the school Cristiano received Dux of the School and was offered a contract to dance professionally with the company.

  • Cristiano has been performing with the Australian Ballet Company in various productions in Australia.

  • Cristiano was nominated for Telstra Dancer of the Year Award.

  • In 2010 Zoë Komazec competed in the CSTD Preston Competitions in Melbourne and won the Commonwealth Theatrical Cup, Senior Lily Alison Jazz Championship, Senior May Downs Tap Championship, Open Age Aggregate and Senior Grande Aggregate.

  • Zoë also performed as Tantomile in Manila and Taiwan in the Really Useful Company’s CATS Now and Forever.

  • In 2011 Zoë obtained her Teachers Certificate in C.S.T.D Modern Jazz and C.S.T.D Tapping. Later in the year she also completed and gained her A.I.C.D Associate Certificate.

  • In 2012 Zoë successfully completed her C.S.T.D Teacher's Diploma in Tap and in Modern Jazz. She and Barbara also ventured to Tasmania to adjudicate the Hobart Eisteddford.

  • In 2013 Zoë performed in The Addams Family Musical in Sydney performing in the ensemble and covering the role of Wednesday.

  • Zoë performed in The Illusionists 2.0 through 2013/2014/2015 Travelling to Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, New Zealand, Mexico, Istanbul, Dubai, Abu Dhabi.

  • After completing the full time course at Ministry of Dance in 2009, Monica Swayne played the role of Margarita in the Australian Tour of West Side Story and recently finished performing in the musical Mary Poppins Australian Tour covering Mary.

  • Monica performed in Wicked in New Zealand, Manila and the Ausralian Tour 2014.

  • Monica is currently performed in Fiddler on the Roof.

  • Stephanie Grigg graduated from WAAPA in 2010 performed Swing in the recent production Love Never Dies. Stephanie then went on to perform the role of Maggie in the Australian tour of A Chorus Line.

  • Stephanie performed in A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum alongside Geoffrey Rush, Hugh Sheridan and Magda Szubanski. 

  • Jessica Voivenel was accepted into the 3 year Musical Theatre course at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts) in 2011 and completed the course in 2014.

  • Lilyana Scott accepted in Level 8 Full Time and the Australian Ballet School in Melbourne after two year at the school.

  • Nadia Komazec and Zoe Komazec are currently both performing in the Australian Premiere of Matilda the Musical touring Australia. Nadia Komazec is in the enemble and cover Miss Honey and Mrs Wormwood. Zoe Komazec is Assistant Dance Captain and Swing. We wish them great success for the each city with Matilda the Musical

  • Bridget Hancock who was last seen performing as one of the Angels in the Australian Tour of Anything Goes has been offered a contract with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines on the Ovation of the Seas in "The Vegas Show Live; Love Legs" 2017

 

  • Congratulations to Jess Voivenel who has just finished performing in Mack & Mabel with the Hayes Theatre Company in Sydney. Choreographed by Cameron Mitchell (former student of Barbara Jayne Dance Centre)

  • Congratulations to Jaime Foord who returned from performing on two contracts with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and has recently been offered her third contract with the company touring throughout 2017.

  • Cristiano Martino (a former Barbara Jayne Dance Centre student) is now performing in the Australian Ballet Company (Coryphee)

  •  

  • Emily Duhne, student of the Barbara Jayne Dance Centre since the age of 3, has been accepted into the Elite Classical Dance Program at WAAPA Western Australia.

  • Maddison Lochert will be touring as a Dancer/Entertainer with Norwegian Cruise Lines in 2017. Congratulations to Maddison on the start of her professional career.

  • Congratulations to Charlotte & Jessica Stratton-Smith gaining a place at The Australian Ballet School Level 4.

  • Caitlin Vos (former student of Barbara Jayne Dance Centre since the age of 3) is currently performing with Beyond Limit Entertainment in Mumbai, India.

  • Courtney Murray wil be completing the full time dance program at Ministry of Dance in Melbourne 2017.

  • Madelien Camac completed her Certificate IV in Dance at Ministry of Dance in 2015 and has just returned from performing with Princess Cruises.

  • Hannah Belet has just completed her certificate at Brent Street in Sydney.
