The Story

Established in 1975 by founder and director Ms Barbara Komazec, the Barbara Jayne Dance Centre has proudly nurtured and inspired dancers for over 50 years. Welcoming students from as young as three years old through to adults, the studio is renowned for its strong technical training, artistic excellence, and warm, supportive environment.
​
Barbara Jayne Dance Centre offers comprehensive training in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, and Musical Theatre, preparing students to a professional standard. Many graduates have progressed directly into careers within the performing arts industry, a testament to the studio’s commitment to discipline, versatility, and performance quality.
​
The studio has held the prestigious title of Champion School at the SASDS Competitions for over 15 years, achieving consistent success across all facets of dance and reflecting its long-standing reputation for excellence.

Our alumni include Cameron Mitchell, Jacqui Stratton-Smith, Daniel Jaber, Stephanie Grigg, Monica Swayne, Nadia Komazec, Zoë Komazec, Jaime Foord, Bridget Hancock, Maddison Lochert, Caitlyn Vos, Jasmin Carter, Oscar Bridges, Courtney Murray, Lacie Roberts, Scarlett Anthony, Martine Quigley, Amy Berrisford, Cristiano Martino, Isabella Rosser, Maddi Camac, and Nicola Wills-Jones, among many others.

Graduates of Barbara Jayne Dance Centre have gone on to train with and perform for leading institutions and companies including The Royal Ballet, Vaganova Ballet Academy, Australian Ballet School, The Australian Ballet Company, Queensland Ballet Company, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Ballet Dortmund, Australian Dance Theatre, and more.

Musical theatre credits across Australasia include productions such as Matilda, School of Rock, Legally Blonde, A Chorus Line, Grease, The Addams Family, Mamma Mia!, Mary Poppins, Cats, The Book of Mormon, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story, Chicago, Moulin Rouge!, Billy Elliot, and many others.
International credits include Broadway (NYC) productions such as Just in Time, West End (London) productions including Frozen, Aladdin, Mary Poppins, Evita, and Follies in Concert, as well as performances with Disneyland Paris and major cruise lines including Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival, and Princess Cruises.
