Barbara Jayne Dance Centre

Over the years Barbara Jayne Dance centre has competed in many dance competions throughout Australia gaining much success in both Adelaide and interstate. B.J.D.C has been competing in the SASDS competitions for the past 25 years gaining much success in championships, aggregates, teachers aggregates, and overall school champion. Students also compete interstate winning various championships and aggregates. Common interstate competitions soloists compete in include Mount Gambier Dance Eisteddfords, C.S.T.D Competitions in Preston Melbourne, Ballarat Competitions, McDonald’s Sydney Dance Eisteddford and many more. Not only does BJDC compete in competitions and achieve outstanding results in exams but also performs for various functions around Adelaide. Barbara Jayne students have been very successful in both Musical Theatre, Classical Ballet and contemporary. Some of the highlights include:
  • Cameron Mitchell; As a performer Cameron appeared in the Australian productions of Hot Shoe Shuffle, Chicago, Oliver, Westside Story, My Fair Lady, the concert versions of Zorba and Mack and Mabel. He recently performed in Monty Python’s Spamalot. Film/TV appearances include Baz Luhrman’s Oscar winning Moulin Rouge, People’s Choice Awards, Helpmann Awards, Popstarts, Mornings with Kerrianne and Roy and HG’s Club Buggery. Cameron is also Artistic Director of the renowned Brent Street Studios in Sydney.
  • Amy Berrisford
  • Caitlin McLeod completed her diploma in dance and Centre of Performaning Arts (CPA; Adelaide) and was then chosen to join Australian Dance Theatre (ADT)
  • Jacqui Stratton-Smith;
  • Nadia Komazec played the role of Meg Giry in the Australian and World Tour of Phantom of the Opera from March of 2007 through to June of 2008.
  • Nadia then performed in the chorus of Mamma Mia and understudied the role of Sophie and Ali in 2009/2010.
  • In 2008 Cristiano Martino won the prestigious McDonald’s Sydney Classical Scholarship and was asked to perform at the Sydney Opera House for the Helpmann Awards.
  • Cristiano also competed in the CSTD Competitions in Melbourne winning the 12 and Under 14 Jazz Championship, the Prestigious Commonwealth Classical Scholarship and the 12 and Under 14 Aggregate
  • In July of 2008 Cristiano competed in the Cecchetti National Medal taking home the Silver medal after competing against students from all over Australia.
  • Cristiano was accepted in level 5 at the Australian Ballet in 2009 school and is now in his fourth year at the school in level 8.
  • In 2010 Zoë Komazec competed in the CSTD Preston Competitions in Melbourne and won the Commonwealth Theatrical Cup, Senior Lily Alison Jazz Championship, Senior May Downs Tap Championship, Open Age Aggregate and Senior Grande Aggregate.
  • Zoë also performed as Tantomile in Manila and Taiwan in the Really Useful Company’s CATS Now and Forever.
  • In 2011 Zoë obtained her Teachers Certificate in C.S.T.D Modern Jazz and C.S.T.D Tapping. Later in the year she also completed and gained her A.I.C.D Associate Certificate.
  • After completing the full time course at Ministry of Dance in 2009, Monica Swayne played the role of Margarita in the Australian Tour of West Side Story and will Cover the role of Mary in Mary Poppins Australian Tour.
  • Stephanie Grigg graduated from WAAPA in 2010 performed Swing in the current production Love Never Dies. Now playing the role of Maggie in the current production of A Chorus Line
  • Jessica Voivenel accepted into the 3 year Musical Theatre course at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts)
