BARBARA JAYNE DANCE CENTRE

The Barbara Jayne Dance Centre was established in 1975 under the direction of Ms Barbara Komazec. The Dance Centre has many success stories to its claim and students are trained to a professional level with some students going directly into professional careers. Students are trained in classical ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, musical theatre and hip hop. For the past three years students have been acceptd in WAAPA Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, a highly sought after Bachelor of Arts, degree in Musical theatre. Barbara Jayne Dance Centre has been the champion school for the last decade and a half at the SASDS Competitions winning sections in all facets of dance. Last year Zoë Komazec won the prestigious Commonwealth Theatrical Cup, May Downs Senior Tap Championship, Lily Allison Jazz Championship, Open Age Aggregate and the Senior Grande Aggregate in the CSTD dance competitions in Melbourne. Zoë Komazec performed in the musical “CATS
Now and Forever” with the Really Useful Company Asia. She played the role of Tantomile and understudied Rumpleteaser, Sillabub and Demeter. Zoë toured with the company performing in Manila to a sell out season and then toured Taiwan during September and October. Zoë is just one example of a student being trained at BJDC and then being accepted straight into a professional musical. Stage One SACE dance is being offered this year. This is by audition only. Barbara Komazec the director of Barbara Jayne Dance Centre says the key is to have a very strong classical background plus all other forms of dance and a good background in singing.
